"I believe there is power in ‘spreading the good stuff’" Fiona Stewart - Founder Green Man Trust

Why the Green Man Trust?
Wales is facing a perfect storm: a rural crisis, a climate crisis, and a crisis of opportunity.
In Mid Wales, communities are at risk of disappearing as young people move away in search of work. A quarter of local workers earn below the living wage, and residents aged over 60 above the UK average, putting pressure on care and services that are already stretched thin. As shops, schools and bus routes close, isolation and inequality deepen year on year.
At the same time, climate change is hitting rural Wales hard as floods, rising costs and changing weather threaten homes, farms and livelihoods. 74% of adults in Wales say they’re concerned about the climate, but too often lack the tools, networks or opportunities to make a difference.
Meanwhile, arts and culture, some of our greatest strengths, are underfunded and undervalued. Wales ranks among the lowest in Europe for public investment in culture. Emerging artists struggle to find space, support or visibility. And yet creativity is one of the most powerful forces we have to bring hope, connection and change.
That’s where Green Man Trust comes in.
We’re the year-round charitable arm of Green Man, driven by a belief that creativity, opportunity and community can transform lives. We bring people together through arts, science, climate action, reskilling and community projects that create opportunity where it’s needed most.
Green Man is an influential global brand embedded in Cymru, supported by a multi-skilled organisation. It is one of Mid Wales largest employers, spanning tourism, hospitality, wellness, science, health and safety, temporary construction, culture and all aspects of the creative industries. Green Man Trust builds on this diversity, experience and success to create opportunities in Cymru through targeted community action, training, engagement with leading science organisations and the showcasing and development of emerging artists.

Who we are

‘People ask me what the difference is between the Green Man Festival and their charitable arm the Green Man Trust. It's true that both highlight what an incredible country Wales is to the world. They develop the arts, promote Welsh language, support Welsh communities, and the innovations that make our country great.’
'The festival ethos is similar, but the Trust operates separately as a registered charity with a mission to develop the philanthropic ambitions of the festival throughout the year. It does this by directing funding, experience and opportunities to projects which address inequality and poverty in Wales, the climate crisis and support arts development. The Trust has achieved so much and the warmth, honesty and enthusiasm they bring to everything they do is inspiring to everyone involved. Working with the Green Man Trust has been an amazing experience, and I am very proud of their achievements and the people who have helped make so much ‘good stuff,’ happen. Please support us if you can. There is so much more we can do and with your help, we can get it done.'
Our Trustees

Fiona founded Green Man Trust in 2014 to address the rise in inequality, poverty and lack of opportunities for young and vulnerable people. Fiona is mainly known for her involvement in outdoor events where she is respected as an innovator. She is listed 24 in the BBC Woman’s Hour Music Power list, and was the first woman to receive the top festival accolade of ‘Outstanding Contribution to UK Festivals Award,’ previously awarded to John Peel, Peter Gabriel and Michael Eavis for the development of the boutique festival concept. Access all Areas awarded her a festival lifetime achievement award for developing the Control Method, a safety operational festival system now used throughout the world. She is the only woman in the UK to have controlling ownership of a large music festival. Her career also spans tourism, hospitality, food and drink, training and wellness which she has used in developing training schemes for young and disadvantaged people.
